Whoever Said Negativity Was the New Pink Was Seriously Disturbed

Maybe I spend too much time on the internet, but man, some people are just so negative. It's beyond being a Negative Nancy. It's Negative Nancy stuck under a black rain cloud that monsoons 24/7 and has little lightning bolts that strike every thirty minutes on the dot. I'm not sure when it happened, but being negative became the new black and I for one am not here for it. But what are you supposed to do when you're shrouded in negativity, whether it be the people you're friends with, your co-workers, classmates, or perhaps just the atmosphere you're surrounded by?

You gotta keep your head up (ooooooh)

SO YOU CAN LET YOUR HAIR DOWN, AAAAYEEEE. This is not a guest post by Andy Grammer, sadly. It's still me, Francesca. I can see the disappointment in your eyes. As the great philosopher said, "you gotta keep your head up so you can let your hair down" something something something "I know it's hard, know it's hard to remember sometimes." I mean, this entire song is about staying positive! The whole thing! It was right under our noses the entire time, or at least since 2011.

Our dear friend Andy was onto something. Hold your head high, my friends. Don't let the little stuff get you down. People in the world aren't going to agree with everything you like or your beliefs on outwardly expressing negativity. Don't let them take away your sunshine. Hold your head high, stand your ground, and continue living life the way you want to.

Think happy thoughts...think happy thoughts...

Mantras are mantras for a reason. Do you think I have a Pinterest board just for uplifting and positivity quotes just for fun? Hell no. Some days I just need constant reminders to be a ray of sunshine instead of raining on everyone's parade. Spread kindness like confetti? Check. You're amazing? Thanks, adorable Pinterest graphic! Be happy. Be bright. Be you. You know what, pretty gold lamê lettering, I will! Thank you! Fake it 'til you make it can work in any situation. Sometimes you have to fake a little positivity to spark the real deal.

Remember, it's not cool to hate everyone and everything

"Cool" is such a subjective turn. I know I throw it around a lot in my fashion posts, saying that something looks cool, that I'm not cool enough to wear something, etc. For some reason, it's become mainstream and trendy to not only love matcha (a good trend) but to also hate everything that everyone adores. These two things do not go hand in hand, I just wanted a chance to say that I, too, enjoy a good matcha latte every once in a while. Anyways, I digress, in the same season it's become cool to wear ruffled statement sleeves, it's also totally on trend to unleash a verbal Burn Book on everything that a mass amount of people love.

I actually recently went on a mass unfollowing spree on Tumblr because my entire dashboard was full of hate after hate after hate. It wasn't justified hate, either, like people calling Chris Brown a piece of trash or anything. One could argue that any hate is justifiable because we're all entitled to our own feelings, which is true. And we have the right to express whatever we please because of freedom of speech. But a popular topic brought up a lot during this past election was this: just because we have the freedom to say certain things, does it always mean that we should?

Know who you are and keep your priorities straight

Some days I get caught up in the negativity. It's hard when you're shrouded in it. Every day is not a good day. Some days it's easier to be positive than others. But at the root of it all, you know who you are. Even on a bad day, you know the type of person that you are and who you want to be. Let that fact pull you from your rut and brush away the cloud of negativity that can crowd you when you're not in a supportive space.

  1. I love this post so much!!! I agree, the internet is so full of negativity and hate nowadays – it gets so tiring and depressing to come across. Lately I've been searching up things like "how to be happy" on YouTube when I'm feeling all the negativity, and it definitely helps haha!

    1. Ugh, good idea! I've been spending less time on the internet to try to take a break/avoid the negativity but it's nice to know there's always a silver lining and shining light even in the darkness on the interwebs hahaha. Thanks Jessica!
