Dressing Like a Haim Sister

Haim sisters, if you see this, hear me out. My singing voice is mediocre at best, I haven't touched my guitar since 2013, and I quit piano lessons after a year, but I bet I could play a mean cowbell or something. Dressing the part is half the battle, right? I think I could bypass the whole, you know, musical talent thing...and the adorable on rhythm dancing. If I put enough Ouai Wave Spray in my hair I bet I could achieve the Haim waves. I'll even dye my hair darker if you need me to, I swear.

On the reals, I saw a picture of the Haim sisters on my Tumblr dashboard the other day and I had a lightbulb go on in my head. I love the way Danielle, Este, and Alana dress. It's very 70s, laid back, and totally west coast. I am not any of those things, especially laid back, but dammit, if I want to dress like the fourth Haim sister, then I'm going to do it!

Ideally, this jacket would not have been apart of this look. Alas, it's winter and wearing a t-shirt at this time of year without anything on top is a no go. It's chill though, I've seen those gals rock a faux fur coat in more than a few Instagram photos so I'm just combining photographic inspiration, ya know?

Truly, there are four key pieces to dressing like a Haim sister: an oversized vintage looking t-shirt, a pair of loose-fitting mom jeans or vintage Levi's, ankle boots, and for added measure, a pair of statement sunglasses that people would probably give you weird looks for on the street. That's really all you need. And in the summer, you can swap out the vintage tee shirt for a floaty blouse with some sort wrap or tie detail that is most likely from Revolve or Reformation.

When I thought about doing this post and recreating a pretty common look for the sisters, my mind immediately went to my BDG mom jeans. The waist on these are ridiculous and I knew they'd work perfectly with the outfit in my head. This is, easily, one of the only times that I liked the way an outfit turned out after planning it in my head without trying it on before only like fifteen minutes before I left to shoot for the day. That has...never happened, so I guess thank you Haim sisters for having a chill yet still fashionable sense of style?

I was going to opt for a plain white t-shirt, but I nicked this old Cheap Trick shirt from my mom to really give it that vintage effect. Though, I'm actually not sure if this shirt is all that old. There's always Cheap Trick merchandise filtering through this house. My dad thinks he's best friends with the lead singer, so you can't really escape the Midwestern rock band in this household.

And, of course, my Public Desire gold hoop booties make yet another post (and will continue to make posts because they're fantastic). In reality, they were just the finishing touch. The pointed toe with the shape of the heel work really well with the style of the jeans and the hoop is just an added bit of edge to keep the outfit from just being a t-shirt, jeans, and black boots.

    1. Thank you! I love that the coat gives it a little more texture and some warmth hahah. THEY'RE SO GOOD! "Want You Back" is a total jam, but I'm such a sucker for "The Wire" too.
