Things I'm Loving

1. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)

I absolutely refuse to stop talking about Mindy Kaling. It's actually in my contract that I have to mention her every two posts or else two masked men will come to my house and shave off my eyebrows. I'm only kidding. I have no contracts, because let's be honest, I'm too lazy to do anything that requires a contract. I LIED. I had to sign a contract when I became a Journalism major. Does that count? I digress…

My friend recently started reading this book on her vacation, and through her sending me various snippets from it, I realized that I had to re-read this book. It was for the best, because now I'm Mindy Kaling EVERYTHING. I mention her every few hours, even if it's just to myself. This book is so funny and has so many personal anecdotes from the Queen herself. If you haven't read this book yet…what is wrong with you? I've been talking about it forever! Stop reading this post, drive/walk/fly/teleport to Barnes and Noble (or your local book store!) and pick up this book. Better yet, finish this post, then get a hold of the book. That sounds a lot better.

2. Essie's 'Mod Square'

Talk about hot pink. This nail polish was purchased on a whim before finals week because I hadn't purchased a nail polish in 5 months at that point. I picked it up at CVS and it made me so happy to have such a bright nail polish. Since then, I've worn it countless times because it's just that good. It rivals my beloved OPI 'Cajun Shrimp' polish. Seriously. If you've looking for Nicki Minaj in a bottle of nail polish, check this one out.

3. Sunscreen

I've started babysitting recently, meaning that I am practically forcing the kids to go outside. Okay, not forcing, but gently nudging them in that direction until THEY LISTEN TO WHAT I SAY. All jokes aside, if it's a beautiful day and they want to play outside, I am really generous with the amount of sunscreen (SPF 50? Yes please) I put on them and myself. I really like the ones that you mist on and the ones that are meant for sports or active performance to ensure that if you're in the water or sweating, it won't come off and you're still protected.

4. Scores

No, not the scores for the World Cup games (though that is fairly interesting as well. Anyone else bummed the US are out?). I'm talking the scores to movies and television shows. There's just something about instrumentals that are so soothing. I've been doing a lot more reading and writing lately, and scores are the perfect soundtracks for those moments where I need total focus. I can't work in complete silence though, so opting for a track with no lyrics is a great option for me.

Favorites at the moment: "Finale" by Danny Elfman (from The Kingdom), "Your Hand In Mine" by Explosions In The Sky (from Friday Night Lights), "Theme" by Jon Brion (from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), "We're All Leaving" by Arcade Fire (from Her), and "Hoppípola"by Sigur Rós (from We Bought a Zoo)

5. Pablo Neruda

It's usually strictly a late night occurrence, but when I get bored between the hours of 12 and 2 AM, I usually end up reading Pablo Neruda poems or quotes (in Spanish). I have the tendency to tweet in Spanish at 1 AM. Maybe it's because I know not many people know what it says until they hit the translate button conveniently on the tweet. It's a weird thing I've been doing lately, but Pablo Neruda poems have been my absolute favorite. He writes beautifully about life, and especially love. There are a lot of his translations in English online, so if you ever need something to fill your free time, give some Pablo Neruda poems a try.

Spanish translation of the quote in the picture, from Si tu me olvidas:

Todo me lleva a ti
como si todo lo que existe
aromas, luz, metales,
fueran pequeños barcos que navegan
hacia las islas tuyas que me aguardan.

What have you been loving lately?
