NYC Street Diaries: I'm Melting

To be quite frank, I haven't shot a proper outfit in a while. It's hard to find the time, yes, but also the weather lately has been absolute crap on the days that I do actually have time. For the most part it's been raining, but now the heat is coming in again and not only do I not want to have to stand in the heat and humidity posing away, but I also really don't feel like making other people stand around and shoot for me. In fact, if I did, they'd probably want to shoot me in some other respect.

However, I've always been a fan of the quick little iPhone shoot, which is how my NYC Street Diaries posts were born in the first place, well before I actually moved to the city. It started out of pure laziness and lack of time to shoot real content (this was before I taught my mom how to use my DSLR camera) while my continuous commitment to posting every day on my blog was still there. And then, of course, the more I thought about it, the more fun I had posting the casual shots from a day to day mini Instagram shoot if more than one or two came out nicely. I mean, why not, right? Does everything really have to be DSLR quality? Can't we just, ya know, kick it back a bit and pretend it's 2008 with our little mini red Kodak 12 megapixel digital cameras with the self-timer and no flip out screen so you just have to guess what you look like?

I've become one of those people that complains about the weather on an almost too regular basis now.  I can't stop. I'm a monster. I feel the words "It's too fucking hot" creeping up my throat, perched on the tip of my tongue. I think I'm not going to succumb to the societal pressure to hate on the weather and then I get whipped in the face with a hot, stuffy breeze and all bets are off.

Not to get too Wicked Witch of the West, but I'm melting. I was expecting humidity and heat after living on the east coast and near the Great Lakes my entire life and dealing with this every single summer. What I was not expecting, however, was this up and down consistent stream of humidity that single-handedly can make a clean body feel like absolute garbage after an hour of being outside. I don't shower in the morning and thank god because if I did, I'd be pissed that I spent time sponging the sweat from the day before off of my body only to be cloaked by sweat and grime within a ten-minute walk outside.

It's my blog and I'm going to complain about the weather if I want to!

You know what though, maybe I'm building character. Maybe I'll come out stronger than ever on the other side and will be able to live to speak of these brave accomplishments. Perhaps someday I'll possess the power to not only wear jeans in this heat, but also a shirt with sleeves on it. We've all see those uber fashionable probable Urban Outfitters models walking around in head to toe fall attire in the blistering sun and they're not even breaking a sweat. That, my friends, is what I aspire to be.

However, that will not be me this summer. Catch me wearing the least amount of clothes possible, lightly dabbing the sweat beads off of my face so they don't disturb the makeup I cleverly caked on to avoid looking too red or wet at all times.

    1. I just wish the humidity was gone wahhhh. Can't win though! Humidity makes it feel way hotter in the summer and wind chill makes it way colder. Darn east coast weather!

  4. I, too, am melting. And appreciate the quicker, iPhone picks in favor of not melting.
