#GlowLife: My Highlighter Collection

While I could easily do a collection on all of the stationery highlighters that I own, today I'm talking all about the highlighters I own in my makeup collection. In a year, I went from only owning two MAC MSFs to have a good deal of various shades of highlighter to pop on the high points of my face. I don't know how I got to this point, but all I know is that I'm quite content with my collection and the pretty sheen these products add to my skin.

I have two Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors in the shades Opal and Champagne Pop. These are, hands down, my favorite highlighters and if it was up to me, I'd probably have the entire shade range. That would be a bit excessive, of course, but a girl can dream. Opal is a really gorgeous pearly medium gold shade. Champagne Pop is a pinky-peach shade with a tinge of gold. Both of these are really intense highlighters, so they definitely need to be applied with a light hand and with care, but when applied right, they seriously just light up your face!

I've talked about this on the blog plenty of times before, but I am still just as in love with the Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette as I was over the summer. My roommate at the time (shoutout to you, girl) picked this up for me at Boots when she was in London this summer and it came in clutch. It has four shades: Ecliptic, Hemisphere, Subsolar and Equinox. There are three powders and one cream blush, all in various hues. The cream highlighter is a pale mauve shade that adds the perfect subtle sheen! Then there's a light pink, bright pale yellow gold and a peachy-gold shade for the powder highlighters. I bring this with me when I go home for the weekends because they're super pigmented and give me all of the choices I'd possibly need in one small, sleek palette.

My least favorite highlighters in my collection are probably the MAC MSFs, but they served me well as my first highlighters before I knew what highlighting was. One of my first high-end beauty products ever was the MAC MSF in Lightscapade, which I picked up at the original CCO in the outlet mall before it closed (and eventually reopened). It's a pearly base with pastel colors marbled through it, but it applies in one sort of white-gold sheen. It's not particularly pigmented and doesn't last very long, but I'm holding onto it for whatever reason. Now, I don't hate Soft and Gentle by any means, but I also don't wear it that often now that I have other formulas that I like better. Still, it was one of my original highlighters and I do still really enjoy wearing it. Heck, I'm wearing it right now! It's similar to the peachy-gold shade in the Sleek palette, but it has the tiniest bit more glitter in it.

I don't love the highlighting shade in the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow palette as much as I wish I did, but I also don't hate it. It's still very pigmented, but it's just not as standout as my other highlighter shades. It's very, very subtle and I tend to only use it when I want my makeup to be low-key. Still, it's a gorgeous product and the light gold shade really suits my skin, especially as I get more fair as the winter progresses!

My last highlighter (sans a couple of miscellaneous Tarte ones that I never use) is one that I just talked about recently in a blog post! I picked up the Mary-Lou Manizer from the Balm Cosmetics a couple of weeks ago and wow. Woooooow. Talk about pigmented. It's a gorgeous light gold shade that packs a punch. It's not glittery by any means, but it just adds the perfect reflective sheen to the tops of the cheeks that I haven't found in any other product.

What's your favorite highlighter?

  1. That highlighter from Balm Cosmetics looks so pretty! I've been looking for non glittery powder one for so long, I'll have to try this out :)
