Halloween Costumes

In case you haven't checked out a calendar in a while, it's October, which means that it's the month of Halloween. To some, Halloween is a lifestyle. To others, it's an excuse to buy bulk candy by the bags and indulge. Whether or not you enjoy every–or any–aspect of the holiday, Halloween is unavoidable on the last day of the month. Sometimes you just have to embrace the spooky day and make of it what you will.

I'm not massively keen on costumes, but after dressing up as a pumpkin spice latte last year, I'm interested in finding something just as cute and me for this year. Mostly just something me though. Last year's list included the likes of Elle Woods, Cher Horowitz and Damian from Mean Girls, meaning I used all of the greats. It was time to hit the drawing board again this year to try to find some other cute and fun costumes that are different than a cop, robber, Minnie Mouse, Sandy from Grease and the list goes on. The possibilities are endless and truly, you can be whatever you want to be. Just put on an all black ensemble and some dark lipstick and call yourself a witch off duty.

What better and more pop culturally relevant costume than a Snapchat filter? I'm personally pretty obsessed with the butterfly filter (side note: today, there's no butterfly filter option and I'm...sad), but Nikkietutorials also has quite a few other filter makeup tutorials on her Youtube channel.

Lauren Conrad herself is also the queen of adorable and recognizable Halloween costumes. I particularly love her high-fashion version of the Tooth Fairy.

And for a healthy option, why not embrace the fruit life and be a strawberry or a pineapple?

As for my ideas, well, they're a little less obvious, but quintessentially me. Some of my tentative costume ideas include:

1. Lauren Conrad in the iconic scene from The Hills with the famous singular dark black mascara tear streaming down her face

How to achieve this look: Apply waterproof mascara only on your right eye. Apply regular mascara to your left eye. Look at your bank account statement to GPA. Voila!

2. A certified hot mess

How to achieve this look: Treat Halloween like any normal day. Bypass brushing your hair, forget to apply winged eyeliner and give up all hope and wear a plain t-shirt and call it a day.

3. Sunday Evening Routine

How to achieve this look: Apply face mask of your choice. The greener, the better. Slip on the comfiest robe, sweats, sweatshirt, whatever hug-in-a-clothing-piece that you prefer.

I'd like to dedicate today's post to my friend Michelle, my makeup loving, vibrant haired beauty who went too soon. She read my blog before we had classes together and ever since, she's been such a huge support system. Michelle was a huge supporter of body positivity and loving yourself and radiated positivity  She was one of the kindest, most inspirational people I've met at university and she will be sorely missed. Rest easy, my friend.
