At this point in the summer (and in my life) my blood is probably actually coffee. If I don't start my day off with a cup, I get a headache. I need one or two throughout the day and usually resort to drinking another cup around bed time so that I can stay up a finish things that I inevitably did not finish throughout the day. Caffeine is my best friend and I'm strongly considering researching coffee IV drips.

In the summer, hot coffee is not necessarily my favorite thing in the entire world. The last thing I want to do is chug a hot coffee in the blistering sun. Enter the wonders of iced coffee...

My favorite is from Dunkin Donuts. I finally got my order down and for $2.42 a pop, you can't go wrong. Do I frequent DD for my coffee fix in the morning (and the afternoon because more than one is always necessary)? Yes, of course. I go to the same one before I head over to babysit so I don't have to lug around my coffee creamer and have to worry about using all of my aunt and uncle's K-Cups.

There is one woman who works the drive-thru every time I go through. Her name is Margo and she has to be somewhere in her mid-50s. I get excited when I hear her voice on the speaker system or pull up to the window to see her tan skin, freckles, and on point eyeliner no matter how early it is. She always asks how my day is going, calls me "love" and "doll" and never fails to wish me a good day or a good weekend.

Now, I'm sure she does this to everybody and I'm not a special little flower in Margo's life. She probably sees hundreds of people in a day and tells them all to have a nice day with a smile on her face. But isn't it amazing what a little bit of politeness and kindness can do for somebody? I give friends Margo updates because she makes my day. I even saw Margo today! She told me to enjoy my Friday and have a nice weekend, to which I told her the same, of course.

I have Margos all around. The manager at the Starbucks around the corner from the boutique I work in who knows me by name, the worker at the salad and wrap place I go to on campus who always chats with me, the maintenance worker in my residence hall who helped me out countless times throughout my two years in the dorm.

Try to be a Margo to somebody, not just today, but as often as you can. Be that little ray of sunshine in somebody's life because it clearly can make a difference.

Things I'm Loving

1. Highlighting

We're at the point in summer where highlighting might seem pointless because it is so hot and humid, but this is a step that I've been adamant about not skipping as of late. What I like to do it mix a little bit of Sun Beam from Benefit into my regular foundation to give my skin that overall glow. After I apply my normal setting powder and contouring, I'll go in and add whatever highlighting powder I choose (as of late, it's been Angelic from Tarte) to the tops of my cheeks, down the bridge of my nose, to my forehead, on the tip of my chin and onto my cupid's bow.

2. Eat Cake For Breakfast Tumbler Cup

All of my tumbler cups have mysteriously disappeared throughout the schoolyear, so I've resorted to replenishing my collection because they're my favorite way to make sure that I drink enough water throughout the day. When I purchased my new agendas from Lifeguard Press, I figure that I might as well add this cup onto my order while it was 15% off. I've always wanted the Kate Spade tote that had this quote on it, so I figured settling for a tumbler cup with one of my life mottos on it would suffice.

3. Little Mix's Cover of "Want To Want Me" by Jason Derulo

I am absolutely not joking when I say that I've had this on repeat for the past couple of days. I'm OBSESSED. These girls are so talented and I think receiving a hug and a serenade from them would constitute at the best life event there ever was. And then the inclusion of Whitney Houston? YES PLEASE. What a talented group of girls. I'm so heart eyes over them, I've been listening to them nonstop for the past few days and I cannot wait for their third album to come out.

4. "King" by Years & Years

Yet another song I've been loving lately. I think I'm kind of late on this train, but I figure there's no such thing as being too late to start enjoying some music! This is my new song for driving with the windows down and just yelling nonsense out the windows. It also just makes me want to spin around and dance, which in my opinion might just be the best type of song.

What have you been loving lately?

Recipes To Try

Wednesday, July 29, 2015

I Can't Cook is not only the title of one of my Pinterest boards, but it is also just a general statement about my life. If it's not frozen and can't just be defrosted or sautéed with a little butter or oil, I am clueless. Boiling water for pasta is the furthest I've even gotten with kitchen wear and I genuinely don't think that I'm capable of anything else. But, in true Francesca fashion, I'm going to try! I went through my Pinterest boards (and searched around for some more copycat recipes) to try to find myself five recipes that I have no excuses not to try once I'm in my apartment and for the rest of forever. Here's to not resorting to frozen meals!

The struggle is real when it comes to finding foods that I can make at home that I won't get sick of after eating them endlessly for a few weeks (a month max). Hopefully Pinterest can keep me fully stocked with different things to eat or else I'm either going to go broke from eating too much takeout or cry through five nights of pasta a week. Let's pray for variation!

What's your favorite simple meal to cook? Help a girl out!

TGLA, Revisited

Tuesday, July 28, 2015

The summer of The Great Lipstick Adventure continues! Some lipsticks have been lost, some have been gained, and many have received all the love in the world that I can possibly give them! Let's pour one out for the four or five Revlon Lip Butters that I finally decided to toss as well as the J. Cat lip pencil in Red Rose that just wasn't doing it for me anymore. There are obviously quite a few lipsticks that I'm not wearing during the summer because they're my deeper wine and red shades that are meant for the fall, but so far I've been doing a pretty good job at circulating through all of my lipstick colors. Though, there are a select few that I have been wearing more than others.

1. Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Velvet
2. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl
3. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Sydney
4. NARS Audacious Lipstick in Claudia
5. Chanel Rouge Allure Intense Long-Wear Lip Color in 94 Extatique

I wonder what will be the reigning champ by the end of the summer...

New Agenda Additions

Monday, July 27, 2015

I'm convinced that my life without agendas would be a complete and utter mess. A total train wreck, something so disorganized that even TLC wouldn't know what to do with me. Do we give her a show? Do we give her some help? Do we just slowly back away until we can make a break for it?

We were always given free planners every year in middle school and in high school, but it wasn't until senior year that I decided to start purchasing my own agendas because the school ones were quite ugly. I couldn't carry around an ugly planner! It all started with a small blue spiral bound agenda that I got from Target for probably less than $10, but at least it was cuter than whatever disgusting black and gold agendas we got from school that I promptly tossed into the recycling bin after I signed the student code of conduct to hand into my homeroom teacher.

Right before my freshmen year of college, I got myself a jumbo Lilly Pulitzer agenda solely because I saw that Sarah Belle (SarahBelle93x on YouTube) used them religiously. They're cute, they have stickers, and they keep me organized like no other. I continued on with my Lilly agenda through my sophomore year as well and also added a Sugar Paper (from Target) agenda to the mix so that I could keep my academic life separate from my blog life. I like to use it to plan out my blog posts and what not!

It was time to get my agendas for the 2015-2016 academic school year and I was torn. I wanted to stick with my tried and true Lilly agendas, but there are so many other cute brands out there that I had to branch out a bit. I decided to purchase mine through Lifeguard Press because, well, who doesn't love 15% off of their first order if you sign up for the e-mail list? So without further ado, here are my two agendas for my third year of college. Drum roll, please!

To the left is my new agenda and to the right is the Kate Spade medium agenda in the print Favorite Things . You can also find both of these on their respective websites, but I've just linked them to Lifeguard Press incase you guys want to get that same deal that I did!

The interior of the Kate Spade agenda is relatively simple, which is perfect for blog planning! It's a very straight forward agenda with more than enough space, even in just the medium size, to write down what I need to keep my life together.

The agenda is a bit more colorful, a lot more fun, and honestly brightens my day every time I open it up or even look at the floral exterior. According to the sticker on the back of the agenda, it includes:

  • "The best sticker page of all time."
  • "Silly compliments (like, ' your eyelashes are super long')"
  • "Inspirational notes ('hey hey hey, you can do it!')"
  • "Fun suggestions for each weekend (hang a disco ball in your room!)"
  • "A bunch of special holidays" (which are listed above!)
Honestly, it feels like me in an agenda and I am so in love with it.

I cannot wait to whip this out during class to write down my assignments on. I have a feeling it's going to make me smile lots and I'm looking forward to it!

What's your favorite brand of agenda to get? Did you get yours for this year yet?

1. YouTube Beauty Icons: Women To Follow I only watch Tanya and Suzi from this list, but now I feel like I should go on and subscribe to the other three lovely ladies on this list!

2. Healthy Chocolate Frosty I tried making one of these once upon a time and it didn't turn out too hot, but I'm a lover of all things chocolate and think this warrants another try!

3. Man Repeller's Summer Playlist Because there's no such thing as too many playlists, am I right?

4. 20 Things You Need From Anthropologie Right Now Filed under things I can't afford but wish I could...though I do plan on hitting up Anthro before I move into my apartment for some cute little knick knacks and what not. Who knows what else might end up coming home with me...

5. 5 Poppy Summer Lip Shades Say yes to all poppy lipstick colors. I need them all!!!!

6. Rifle Paper Co. Agendas I just got my two new agendas in the mail last week, but a Rifle Paper Co. planner was in the running for a while. Now I think I might just need one of their desk calendars...

7. Consider the Orange Lip I have quite a few orangey-red lipsticks, but I haven't dived in head first to the orange trend yet. I think I might have had to add one to my collection before I set off for third year...

8. Splurge vs Steal I am not a massive fan of buying shoes but I love looking at them, so a shoe steal is certainly my favorite type!

9. A Week Without Sorry I think I might be physically incapable of doing this unless I decide to go mute for a week. I apologize for absolutely everything, even the simplest of things. It's bizarre, but I can't help it. It comes out like "uh," "um," and "like" for me.

10. DIY Copper Clothes Rack Yet another DIY I will never be able to do, but look at how gorgeous the final product is!

11. "Suck It Up" I pretty much repeat this phrase or "get your sh*t together, Francesca" on a daily basis.

To All The Boys I've Loved Before: A Review Of Sorts

Saturday, July 25, 2015

I'm not the best at trying to talk about books or writing. I just read and I write and I normally don't normally think too much about the conventions of it, really. But, I like talking and I like books and I really like this blog, so I figured I'd fake my way through yet another book review on here! I just finished To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han and I think I am head over heels in love with it.

My mom purposely spoils the endings of books for herself. She reads the last few pages before she starts at page one, flips straight to the back of the book to find out the ending to make sure that she likes it before she reads. It drives me absolutely nuts. It's why she never uses her old Kindle. You can't flip to the last page (or at least, not with ease). I, however, like to be surprised, yet somehow I always end up getting the endings of books ruined for me. With this one, I accidentally looked up what I thought was just another book by her and read the description and realized that it was a sequel. OH WELL.

First thing, the book is straight up pretty. Down to the cute cover, the nice font, and just the actual writing. It's a pretty simple read narrative wise. Lara Jean Song is a very timid, "quirky" (I'm cringing at the fact that I just used that word. In my defense, Peter said it!), and family oriented girl. She likes her particular era-inspired fashion, she likes baking, and she really, really likes her sisters.

Basically, the jist of this story is that Lara Jean wrote five boys a letter in an attempt to "get over" them. She wrote these letters, sealed them, and stuck them in a hatbox her late mother gave to her. Then, somehow, the letters get sent out to these boys and she's confronted and trapped and a tad bit (understatement, for sure) embarrassed by the entire thing. Because Lara Jean likes Josh who likes Margot, Lara Jean's sister who does not like Josh anymore. Really, it's all one giant mess that Lara Jean thinks she can handle.

This story involves a few of my favorite things: stereotypical innocence, puns, adorable little sisters, and most importantly, the fake dating trope.

Fake dating is, hands down, my favorite cliche to ever exist in the history of film, television, and literature. I live and breathe faking dating scenarios and would happily read them for the rest of my natural lifetime if given the chance. Diamonds are a girls best friend? Well, fake dating tropes in books are Francesca's best friend.

This book is set up into short chapters (in about 350 pages there's 70 or so chapters), which makes it incredibly easy to be like, "okay, just one more chapter!" And then you end up binge reading fifteen more chapters because they're just so short. I really like the flow of this book, how nothing moved too slow or too fast, and just how Lara Jean told the tale of lost letters and that stupid pesky thing called love.

I'm definitely looking forward to picking up the sequel to this book, P.S. I Still Love You.

Why My Big, Crazy Family Is The Greatest

Friday, July 24, 2015

I come from a very large family. I may only have two brothers, but my mom has eleven brothers and sisters. So yeah, my poor grandmother popped out twelve children. Cue the inevitable "OUCH, that had to hurt" and "Seriously?" Some of my aunts and uncles live in different states, but for the most part my mother's family is located within a 10 to 15 mile radius, if that. I've always had a multitude of aunts and uncles in essence "raising" me. We are just that sort of family, very close, very hands on.

I truly feel bad for those who aren't necessarily close to their families, or don't have much family at all. I don't know what I would do without my big, crazy family around. I definitely wouldn't be as, uh, unique when it comes to my humor and dancing. I've never understood the whole hating holidays because of awkward conversations and questions. It just doesn't happen in my family because one way or another, everyone always knows what's going on in each other's lives and we like it that way.

I grew up with Sunday and Wednesday night dinners (now Sunday, Monday, and Thursday night dinners) and birthdays what feels like almost every other week. The saying "family comes first" is something I take very seriously and I'd like to think that they're some of the best people that I know. Okay, the best and the weirdest.

We have terrible quirks, like on-the spot music trivia that nobody in their right mind would know without Google, perpetual lateness (dinner is announced that it is served an hour before it actually is to ensure that people are on time), cat hoarding (I'm looking at you, Popo and Momo), and just general obnoxiousness. On the other hand, I've had many conversations with my cousins about the fact that we're all relatively intelligent and pretty good looking, if we do say so ourselves, so I guess we have that whole humble thing going for us too.

Sometimes I hate that I'm not home most of the years anymore because I don't get to see my family as much or the kids growing older (especially my nieces and nephew). Other times, it makes coming home that much more special and exciting and fun-filled because it's usually for some sort of family party or event. More often than not, I get excited to come home for the food and the desserts, but the laughs are just as great.

(PS, if you're reading this, Aunt Mo, I'd like an ode to my selfies at the end of this year's family video. I think it'd be a nice way to conclude the entire thing. Think about it).

Three Year Blogiversary

Thursday, July 23, 2015

While Life According to Francesca is only a year old, I've had this blog for three years to the day! I remember the day I started this blog. It was the summer before my senior year of high school and I published my first blog post as I rushed out the door to go to Chili's with my mom. I was wearing a coral long sleeved dolman cropped shirt with black flowy shorts and my Charlotte Russe white bauble necklace. I had had a little bit of a sunburn and I didn't quite have my braces off yet, though they were bound to come off months later. I partially remember this day because I have photos of it, but mostly I remember it because I'm fairly certain that starting this blog was the best decision I made in my entire life.

What started as a blog to talk about makeup turned into, well, whatever we want to call this blog. Fashion, beauty, lifestyle, college, Francesca's ramblings? I feel like the latter describes this blog quite well, as I sort of just do my own thing and hope for the best.

I genuinely don't know what I'd be doing with my time if I didn't have this blog. What would I be writing about? I don't even want to think about how else I'd be occupying my time, if I'm being honest. I've had a blog for as long as I can remember, of all different sorts. I've had a Tumblr for many years and I kept a blog back in middle school before I started high school (one that I still read from time to time to laugh at because it was so horrendous). But this blog...this one was different. I actually cared, it had a point, and I knew it was what I wanted to do.

I've done some things that I'm pretty proud of over the past three years (getting jobs on my own merit, getting straight A's in college, seeing One Direction in the flesh), but I think that the decision to start taking better care of this blog last March might have been one of the best.

Here's to three more years of blogging!

Advice for College Freshmen #1

Wednesday, July 22, 2015

Now, you might ask, Francesca, are you even qualified to give advice? And my answer to that is no, definitely not, but that's never stopped me before! Summer is starting to wind down (well, for me at least) and I realized that I haven't done many college posts yet! I'm sure more will come when August begins and I'm with three other college girls who I can bother with my silly questions, but for now, here's a few pieces of advice for incoming college freshmen (or for any college students, honestly!) that will help make your first year of college a little bit nicer.

1. Go to class

I will put this in every college advice series ever because I believe it is so important. Obviously, if you're sick, don't put yourself through hell and back, but if you just don't feel like There are very few excuses that I can think of that will suffice for skipping class. Even if you feel like you're not missing out on anything or know that you'll get the notes from your friend, skipping becomes a habit and there's going to be times where you really should go to class and you just don't feel like it. Absences add up. Be present, my friends.

2. Talk to your advisors

I've heard of people not liking their advisors or at least their first year advisors which means me so sad to hear! However, if you have a good relationship with your advisor, meet with them frequently (at least once a semester) to talk to them about your plan for the next semester or the next year. They're the ones to go to in order to figure out your graduation track and what you should or should not take and picking up minors or dropping majors. They're sort of your life line, really, and it's always nice to have a little extra support in the academic realm of your lives.

3. Ask questions

Ask questions in class, outside of the classroom, just whenever you need help. Don't be afraid to ask for clarification or a definition. If you're lost, don't be afraid to stop somebody and ask for directions on campus (if they're rude to you then that's clearly their issue and not yours, move on to find somebody else who will be kind). If you need an answer, just ask! Professors and students are not horrible, horrible people who won't be willing to help you out. And, as I said, if they are then that's their issue to work out.

4. Talk to your neighbors

This can go for in class or in the dorms. There's always that sort of "unofficial assigned seat" deals in college so generally where you sit in the first week or two is where you're going to sit all semester. Introduce yourself to your neighbors! Or just have a nice chat with them before class. Honestly, my Lilly Pulitzer agenda and Kate Spade bag were a really nice conversation starter. Compliment somebody on their bag or phone case or shoes. Ask questions about homework or assignments due. Just do anything to be friendly!

5. Take notes

If you're going to go to class, don't sit on your phone the whole time. Take notes, even if you're given a PowerPoint that you have access to. Print it out three slides per sheet and take notes in the lines given. Write down important terms, put things in quotes if what the professor said seemed of importance (it'll probably end up on an exam!) Taking notes is going to keep you awake and attentive in class and give you something to study off of in the long run. There's nothing wrong with cross checking your friends notes or borrowing them on occasion, but don't make somebody do all of your work for you because eventually, it's going to bite you on the bottom!

Anddddd that's all for my first installment in the College Advice Series! Is there anything that you have questions on? Or disagree with?

What's your biggest advice for college freshmen?

Things I'm Loving

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Since I have a bit of a different post for Thursday, we're going to do a Things I'm Loving Tuesday this week instead!

1. "She's Kinda Hot" by 5 Seconds of Summer

HOLY WEEZER. That was my first thought within the first ten seconds of hearing this song for the first time. I honestly still think about this every time I listen to it (which is quite frequently, it's a nice song to drive to). I like this more relaxed style of music for them. It's a lot more chill and less constructed. By now you should know that I don't know how to talk about music in great detail, but I'm quite enjoying this song so far.

2. Benefit CORAListsa Blush

This is in my top three favorite blush colors to wear during the summer months. This is one of those colors that doesn't require a highlighter because it gives your cheeks such a natural glow. I like it the best when I have a little color on my cheeks, but honestly, with a light hand it looks just as lovely on fair skin (and also on darker skin). It's one of those universal warm summer shades and I adore it.

3. Tory Burch Sunglasses

Part of my small sunglasses binge from a few weeks ago, these sunglasses fall under the category of favorite purchases of all time. Since they're from Saks, I'm not entirely sure what the style and name are though! I love their dark tortoise shell, large frames and the small golden Tory Burch emblems on the hinge of the arms. I love that they have a small cat-eye effect and the skinny arms flat arms (as opposed to the skinny rounded arms of my Chloé glasses). They're just an all-around sassy pair of sunglasses and I'm so glad that I can call them mine!

4. Dunkin Donuts Iced Coffee

I still drink hot coffee every morning, but once afternoon comes and the heat of summer sets in, the last thing I want is a piping hot cup of coffee. But sometimes I just want that late afternoon burst of caffeine and iced teas just don't do it for me. I'm not a fan of Starbucks coffee and as much as I love Tim Hortons hot coffee, their iced coffee repulses me. That really only leaves me with Dunkin Donuts, so it works out that their iced coffee is my absolute favorite regardless. I also recently learned a tip from my cousin Jessi (I do this at Starbucks, why did I not think to do this at Dunkin?!) to ask for light syrup because that's usually the part that spoils my coffee for me the rare times that it isn't super delicious. All hail iced beverages!

The Homestretch of Summer

Monday, July 20, 2015

Well, not of the season of summer, but the summer I have left at home. I'm down to less than three weeks before I move into my apartment (to my readers of age: take a shot every time that I mention my apartment in a blog post). If this was a semester, I'd be calling this crunch time and trying to gather my bearings and try not to drown when finals week comes. But I'll be damned if I even attempt to go through my things to decide what is coming with me and what isn't.

Other than finally ordering my bed frame, I haven't really done much on the preparation front. I did buy two new agendas, which are the most important things in my life during the school year and arguably the only things aside from coffee that keep me sane and breathing. Does making a list of school supplies that I need count as being productive? I think I'm getting a mattress at some point?

So, maybe I'm a bit of a disorganized mess at the moment, but I can normally pull myself together when the clock is ticking. I mean, really, all I have to do is empty out a couple of bins, fill them with my summer clothes and do a little home decor shopping so my room doesn't look like a completely barren desert. Getting new makeup organizers would be ideal, though I'm not sure if I'm emotionally ready to dole out $20 for acrylic storage from The Container Store (says the girl who can dole out $30 for a lipstick that will go in one of those drawers).

And what am I going to do about food? I am a clueless cook. I cannot make anything that requires actual preparation, unless that is some form of baked good that I am too lazy to buy ingredients for. Can I live off of microwavable rice and pasta for another year? Or is Pinterest going to whip me into shape and turn me into a world renowned che—I can't even finish that sentence without laughing at myself. Here's to hoping that I do not completely succumb to the college lifestyle this year now that I am off of my meal plan. Though, I do sense a lot more Starbucks intake than last year...but that's just a gut feeling that I have.

Just going to fake my way through the rest of summer and hope for the best when it comes to packing up my life and moving it to Cleveland once again...I should be a pro at this by now, huh?

Things You Don't Realize You Need In College

Saturday, July 18, 2015

I've had two pretty solid years of college under my belt. In those two years, I've purchased and tossed many things that I thought that I needed and scrambled to find things in a pinch because I hadn't realized their importance in my life. To save anybody else the trouble of running around like a mad woman, here's a few things that you might not think that you'd need, but actually come in handy. Some are more obvious than others, but there have definitely been times that I've been rushing around trying to find one of these things (or have had people come to me about it).

1. Stamps TRUST ME ON THIS ONE. You are going to want to have a few stamps lying around. There have been multiple times when I've needed to mail important things (like, you know, leases) and didn't have any stamps to do so. Just help yourself out and keep five or ten around.

2. Gloves They don't have to be tech gloves, but gloves or mittens in general are so important if you live somewhere that it gets cold during the fall and winter. Don't be too proud for gloves or hats because you're going to get sick and it's going to be a miserable week for you.

3. Sharpies I had roommates coming in and out requesting Sharpies, so I kept a few colors around for marking things and what not. You just never know when you're going to need a Sharpie!

4. Pocket tissues You will be the hero of the century if you whip these out for a friend. Or yourself, especially if you're sniffling up a storm during the winter or during allergy season in class. I like to keep these when I'm walking outside during the winter for on the go use. It's a lot nicer than shoving a handful of regular tissue into your pocket.

5. Wallflowers This would be specifically if you lived in a dorm, where there are plenty of weird smells. Most places you can't have candles or wax burners, so Wallflowers will literally save the day. Stock up on these, I promise you they will be the best decision you have ever made in your life.

6. Lint rollers I don't know about you, but my hair sheds like crazy and ends up all over my dark clothing and on my winter coats. To avoid walking around looking like Chewbaca, I highly recommend spending the couple of dollars it costs for a lint roller. Just do it.

7. Mini stapler My friend is going off to college this year and when I saw she didn't have a mini stapler on her incredible list (I might have to steal it from her for future reference), I literally sent my recommendation with a slew of exclamation points. Probably. I excessively use exclamation points, it's a problem. Anyways, mini staplers are going to save your life and your classmates lives when it's time to turn in papers. Half of the time, professors either don't have staplers or the stapler is dysfunctional and useless. Keep this little guy in your bag, it'll save you from folding the corners of your paper.

8. Ziploc baggies I never had these when I dormed and it is by far my biggest regret. I could've portioned snacks for work, kept things fresh longer, and just generally avoided some messes sometimes. Keep a box of these around for those "just incase" moments.

9. Blister bandaids By the time you realize that you need this, it's too late. Your feet are probably already cut up and walking to the store or through a store to get them is going to be painful and horrible. Come prepared with one or two boxes of these, especially if you're breaking in brand new shoes or are walking a lot on campus in loafers or flats.

What is something that you didn't realize you needed until you got to college?

Summer Scents

Friday, July 17, 2015

As much as I love the musk and spice of winter and holiday scents, my all time favorite smell is summer. More specifically, the beachier scents. I love things that smell faintly of sea salt, sunscreen, and coconut. I love it in my hair products, my candles, my perfumes, car scents, and whatever else could possibly be scented, honestly. If they made coconut scented highlighters, I genuinely think I would cry tears of joy.

What's your favorite summer fragrance?

Things I'm Loving

1. To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

I have conquered my reading dry spell with this lovely, lovely book. Young Adult books are my favorite things to read when I don't know what else to read. I know they're always going to be good and entertaining and aren't going to make me angry when it takes me forever to try to read through them. Honestly, books of essays and YA books are my absolute favorites. This one in particular is really cute (and has great representation in it to boot). I'll be doing a post on this book in detail over the weekend (hopefully!) but reading it has been some of the best parts of my day because it's just so cute and the main character, Lara Jean, reminds me of myself which makes me a little bit giddy.

2. Gilmore Girls

That's right, I finally finished rewatching Gilmore Girls for the third time. It took me a few months to watch two seasons and then I watched the remaining five seasons in the matter of two months. It was really great background noise for me and rejoining the lives of the Gimores & Co was a really, really nice addition to my summer. Here's to aspiring to be a Gilmore girl!

3. Chloé Sunglasses

I got two pairs of sunglasses the other week that I am just head over heels in love with. This specific pair was in an outfit post I did a couple of weeks ago. I am a huge fan of big sunglasses because I have a big nose and a big head in general, so anything that isn't described as "bug eyed sunglasses" by the general population will not work on me. I love the angular shape of these as opposed to perfectly round circles, though I would kill for a pair of circular glasses from The Row (a girl can dream, right). I love the lighter tortoise shell frames as well as the skinny arms. They're just the perfect pair of glasses for me and I am so stoked to start wearing them back in Cleveland!

4. NARS Orgasm Blush

I went on a kick where I was only wearing two of my cream blushes until I realized that I have a whole collection of unloved blushes that I should really start using again. The first one I picked up and haven't been able to stop using is the ever-so-scandalously-named Orgasm blush from NARS. I just love NARS blushes in general, but this is one of the most perfect universally flattering summer shades I have even seen. And it's a one stop shop! It is a nice flush of pink, but it also has some gold shimmer to it that covers you on both the blush and highlighter front if you're not going for anything too dramatic. It gives you the nicest flushed glow and I feel like a princess whenever I sweep this across my cheeks.

Dream Closet, Vol. 7

Wednesday, July 15, 2015

That's right, it's time for my monthly scour of Net-A-Porter. Though, if I'm being honest, I frequently visit this website and cry over all of the gorgeous pieces of clothing that cost more than my college tuition. But hey, fashion is art and sometimes has a price on it! However, if any of these items showed up in my closet tomorrow morning in my size, I wouldn't ask any questions either...

Pops of Color In Your Makeup Routine

Tuesday, July 14, 2015

There's a very small window of time during the end of spring and early summer months where I want to inject as much color into my life because I fall back into the habit of all black everything or neutrals for about nine months out of the year. I go all out with lightening my hair, wearing whites and neons and all of the vivid floral prints I own, and all of the crazy bright lipsticks that I can. But, there are definitely some beauty options other than the obvious choice—lipstick, my one true love—that can help you inject some color into your look!

The first option is eyeliner and eyeshadows. No matter what time of year, I still stick to my neutral eyeshadow looks, but I'll definitely utilize eyeliner or a color on the bottom lash line. My cousin recently gave me this teal shimmer eyeliner from her Ipsy bag and not only do I love it as an eyeliner on its own, but it also works great for the double eyeliner look. I'll just apply a thin line of this over the wing of my normal eyeliner to give it a little more flare.

Before lipstick became my main focus, I was OBSESSED with blush. I couldn't get enough of it, which is why I have quite the array of different colors. Yes, this does include an orange cream blush that I absolutely LOVE. NYX has some great cream blush colors and in the realm of drugstore blushes, Elf has a lot of colors (like the neon pink one above!) and they're only three dollars. However, some of my favorite colorful blushes are in Tarte's Amazonian Clay line (like Dollface) and Benefit has their fair share as well, though Coralista is one of my all time favorite blush colors for the summer.

And now we're onto the main event: lipsticks. I could go on and on about my favorite lipstick colors for the summer, but that would be well over twenty so I'm going to try to narrow it down.

I wear lipstick every day. If I'm not going anywhere, I still might put some on just because I'm a weirdo like that and like to play with makeup. However, chances are if I'm going out in public, there is a color on my lips and it's not going to be a neutral. Too Faced has so many great colors in their Melted Lipstick line (like the violet and magenta colors above). In the same realm of liquid lipsticks, NYX's Soft Matte Lip Creams come in a wide arrange of colors for much, much cheaper than the Too Faced versions and other high end liquid lipsticks. NYX lipsticks in general come in a massive array of colors, as well as Revlon. If you're looking for a drugstore lipstick in a unique color, definitely check out those two brands!

Things That Keep Me Sane

Monday, July 13, 2015

Sometimes it feels like I'm running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I often joke that I'm a hot mess, but honestly, it's kind of true on most occasions, except usually minus the hot part. All of this is usually in direct relation to the fact that I am also a total drama queen though. I make things ten times harder for myself, which is a really annoying habit, if I do say so myself. However, there are quite a few things in my life that make me a little more, well, sane and sound and keep my head on straight.

1. My agendas
2. My dog, Cash
3. Coffee
4. Leisurely drives
5. Good books
6. Browsing the magazine section at Barnes & Noble
7. New pens
8. Reorganizing my makeup collection
9. Scrolling through Pinterest when I have a spare second (aka sacrificing two hours of my life to the black hole that is Pinterest)
10. Harry Styles — JUST KIDDING, he is the source of all of my problems

Is there anything in your life that makes your day that much easier?

Good Reads

Sunday, July 12, 2015

I haven't had a chance to do a whole lot of blog reading this week, but I have gotten about halfway through To All The Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han and am quite enjoying it!

1. The Dress Comes Seconds At Valentino Ah, the wonders of couture...

2. How to Sound Like You've Been Going to Couture Shows All Week The FOMO is real when it comes to any sort of fashion event, especially any given Fashion Week, so I'm just going to whip these out and pretend for a while.

3. Climbing Rose Stroll I love the color of that Xander dress! It's so flattering.

4. Striped Shirt Dress Vertical stripes make me a very, very happy girl. I'm also a sucker for shirt dresses. They're just so darn chic!

5. You're Probably Type A-Minus I have never found a term that could describe my personality to well.

6. How to Make Product Collages for Your Blog If you're still new to certain Photoshop tools (I still have so much to learn about it and I've had different variations of Photoshop since eighth grade), this is a really helpful "how to" for you!

Little Apartment Things

Saturday, July 11, 2015

As my move-in date approaches, the more I realize that I have a lot of apartment shopping left to do! I'm solid in the bedding department and will be set with the furniture portion once I finally choose a bed frame that I like. But, in the lines of decorations, I'm pretty lost. I have little trinkets, but not enough to sprinkle throughout an entire bedroom! I'm starting to scramble a bit, looking left and right for some little knick knacks and cute little pieces to spice up my room.

Favorite Emojis

Friday, July 10, 2015

I am an avid user and lover of exclamation points and emojis. I use them far too often in text messaging in fear of being taken too seriously. Some may say I use them too often, but to that I say that there is no such thing as too many emojis or exclamation points! However, I do have a select few that I use quite often and I think that people's favorite emojis say a lot about them. So without further ado, here are some of my most frequently used emojis. Also, I have taken the liberty of giving them new names as opposed to the descriptions given on Macs.

1. The blushing smiley emoji AKA the ultimate passive aggressive shade

2. The heart eyes emoji AKA me whenever I see Harry Styles shirtless

3. The shrugging and princess emojis AKA ultimate sass and Taylor Swift

4. The flower emojis AKA they're literally just flowers I don't know

5. The bunny and peaches emojis AKA my nicknames for everyone and everything

6. The birthday cake and heart emojis AKA who doesn't love cake?

I also like to throw random emojis in the mix sometimes. I used a lot of the crying emojis because I am normally always either laughing so hard that I'm crying or crying because something happy happened and I am just an emotional person.

Things I'm Loving

1. Haute Couture Fashion Week

Honestly, it has just been one continuous cry session over pretty clothes, from resort 2016 to menswear spring 2016 and now moving on into the couture fashion shows in Paris.  I would say it's all too much to handle, but I love the pain and FOMO it brings. Give me haute couture collection photos or give me death. I think that's what Patrick Henry meant to say at least...

2. Vintage Lace soy candle

Usually, I just burn my beachy scents throughout the summer if I'm feeling like lighting a candle, but the subtle sweet smell of this candle from Target has taken precedence in my life. I can't find this candle online anymore to find a legitimate scent description, but it smells very sweet and fresh and it burns in the same manner. It's not overpowering and strong, but it gives off a nice little aroma in the space you leave it in. Plus, the packaging is adorable. A very photogenic candle indeed!

3. "Smile" by Mikky Ekko

Okay, so it took me forever and a day to realize that the song from the Paper Towns trailer wasn't a new Mikky Ekko song that was going to be on the soundtrack, but a song on his already released album. I am a total dweeb, I know. But alas, I made this discovery the other day and have not been able to stop listening to this song. I've been known to cry to this song in the car as well and I'm not entirely sure why, but it happens. Ekko is just so talented, I can't even handle it. I love his voice so much. And yes, this song was on the playlist I posted yesterday, but I believe in excessive love, so I'll mention it again today.

Wild Eyes On The Road (Playlist)

Wednesday, July 8, 2015

I have playlists for everything, it's true. I even have playlists for different types of driving moods at various different times of days. The last playlist I posted was a "windows down" sort of playlist with songs you want to sing and dance to. Since it is summer after all, this one is also a windows down kind of playlist, except it more chilled, more relaxed. You might sing along, but I listen to these songs when it's early afternoon and sunny and I just want to listen to some good music!

Girls In White Dresses

Tuesday, July 7, 2015

This outfit post is a prime example of why I should not be allowed to be photographed, especially by my best friend. I must not be used to people seeing my crazy antics, because more than half of the photos turned into funny outtakes, but you know what? Let's just work with it!

Last Tuesday I went out to dinner with my best friend Katie, who has been offering her photography services all summer. I figure that turning down her offers would be absolutely foolish of me and it's always nice to not have to use the self-timer, so we set out to the lovely, lovely gazebo before dinner and went to town on some photos of my new dress and sunglasses.

Dress: Forever21
Shoes: Target
Sunglasses: Chloé
Lipstick: NARS

Aaaaand, let's just take a look at all of these outtakes because I feel like they really say a lot about who I am as a person.
