What's In My (School) Bag

Monday, January 28, 2013

I've seen this "tag" of sorts floating around the Youtube community for a while so I figured why not make a blog post on it. I'm just using my every day bag that I take with me to school.

My bag is by Tommy Hilfiger. I believe it is considered a bowler bag, but I'm not entirely sure. I got mine discounted at a TJ Maxx. I have a similar bag with an all light brown leather exterior and a navy thick stripe with a hunter green stripe down the middle.

This is an overview of the inside. To the right, there are two small pockets where I keep some small things. To the left, there is a zipper pocket (not shown). The bag, oddly enough, is very roomy. I used to be a cross-body bag kind of person but I don't mind carrying this one around on my elbow.

In the pockets on the right, I keep Post It flags, Post It notes, Orbit sweet mint gum and my pens, pencils and highlighters.

In the pocket to the left, I have my vocabulary cards for English from this past week, my iPod (I have the classic) and the remains of my sock bun that I wore on Monday. It's so official.

In the main body of my purse, I keep a green Moleskine, my daily planner from Target and whatever book I'm reading. Right now I have Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut.

I keep my Vera Bradley wristlet with my phone in it along with my wallet, by Kate Spade.

I have a Vanilla Bean Noel lotion from Bath and Body Works floating around my bag. In my makeup bag (from the Neiman Marcus collaboration with Target, by Carolina Herrera) I keep a few things all the time. My daily lipsticks usually are in there as well, but I just put around 6 or 7 back in my lipstick drawer. Every day, I have my eye drops, an eyelash curler, my Smith's strawberry salve, a Benefit Boing/Lemonaid duo, Maybelline Dream Matte powder, an EOS lip balm in pomegranate, Vanilla Bean Noel hand sanitizer and Britney Spears's Fantasy perfume.

That's all I keep in my school bag. What are some things that you carry around in your purse? At one point, I started carrying around three books just for some different options. :)

Urban Decay Naked Basics palette

Monday, January 21, 2013

If I haven't mentioned this on my blog, I am a sucker for two things: matte eyeshadows and Urban Decay palettes. I don't know if UD read my mind or rifled through my brain, but I was Christmas shopping and saw this gem. I swear, this palette was tailor-made for me and any other matte-enthusiasts.

This case is relatively compact, about (give or take a little) half the length of the Naked palette. I don't reapply my makeup during the day (based solely on the fact that I am lazy) but if I did it would be perfect for a makeup bag. Plus, it has a decent sized mirror! I plan on traveling with this as well.

Essie's 'Where's My Chauffeur"

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

In the middle of shopping for Christmas gifts for my friend, I managed to sneak in a gift or two from myself. This was one of the three (oops?) polishes I accidentally forgot to slip into their bags. This gem is from Essie and it is called Where's My Chauffeur? I love cute names for nailpolishes. It makes them that much more fun to say. This is robin's blue egg meets sky blue. In the bottle, it is a gorgeous color.

MAC's Party Parrot Lipstick

Wednesday, January 2, 2013

Before you yell at me, I am well aware that this lipstick was limited edition and only available during the Strength collection and it now sold out. But, if this was a re-promote, who knows if it will be repromoted once again in the future. And now I shall carry on with my review of this lipstick.

Party Parrot, though released through a collection, is in the standard black bullet casing like most MAC lipsticks. This is only the second one I've owned, though I've swatched countless numbers at the counters. Off topic, but does anyone else feel really awkward shopping at  MAC? I hate asking for certain products...I'd rather pick them out for myself like at Sephora or Ulta. Just my opinion.

Party Parrot has a matte finish. I've never had a completely matte lipstick before, though one of mine seems very close. I had never seen this in person, but Rachel Whitehurst raves endlessly about it so I thought I'd pick up a tube.

This lipstick is not one for someone who isn't daring with their makeup, that is for sure. This lipstick is BRIGHT. You will not be missed wearing this color. It's a very neon coral, hinting more toward pink than an orange. Did I mention that it's extremely bold? Yes?

Onward to my actual review of this lipstick. I would like to mention that I am very fair skinned during the late fall and all of winter. I don't get tan until the sun comes out permanently and it doesn't last long. That being said, this looked slightly silly on me. But, if you have a slightly darker complex or a rocking tan, this is going to look amazing. My lips are also incredibly chapped so it settled into all of my lines, even with a balm. Once the temperature is warm and I get a tan, this lipstick is going to be my go-to, I can feel it. I've heard that Hourglass has an opaque rouge liquid lipstick that is quite similar, called Muse, I believe. If you've been itching for a color like this, perhaps you could check that out or try to get your hand on one.

Overall, nice lipstick, not totally drying, but it's just not the right season for me personally. I can do an updated review once the weather warms up a bit, if that would help. I'm sorry for reviewing a limited edition product. I promise that the next few reviews will be permanent! :)
