Stila's 'Living The Life In The Laguna' Palette

Thursday, August 30, 2012

I bought this palette at Nordstrom Rack in Chicago. It comes with four eyeshadows, a cheek color and a bronzer/highlighter.

The names of the shadows (starting from the top) are Sand Dollar, Sunset, Cove and Bonfire. The cheek color is called Seashell and the Bronzer/Highlighter is Pacific Coast Highway.

NOTD: China Glaze's 'Flip Flop Fantasy'

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

I picked this color up on the day before Easter sunday in hopes it would match with the dress I wore (side note: it didn't). I had never before that day used a China Glaze nail polish because I didn't know they sold them at the Sally's Beauty Supply next to Target...but I do now and I have to force myself not to go in.

Music Affairs, Vol. Two: August

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

Let me start off by saying that I love Stevie Nicks with all of my heart and soul. Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, on to the song. I have, without a fail, driven around multiple times with this song blasting and the windows down. It’s a perfect song to let loose. It’s not too fast, or too slow. It’s not loud; it’s perfect. I love this kind of rock because it’s not heavy on your ears (though don’t get me wrong, I love me some old time rock and roll with the guitar solos that seem to last longer than the rest of the song).

Well maybe, you’re gonna be the one the saves me….No, no, not that song. Same band though! I love this group of dysfunctional brothers. They create the greatest music that is universally loved. There are two types of people in this world: People who love “Wonderwall” by Oasis and liars. So needless to say, I automatically fell in love with this song one day on my way to work and immediately bought it when I got home. It’s that same kind of rock that isn’t super overpowering. The guitar riffs and subtle and a really nice touch if you can hear them. After the first chorus, they start to build up to a louder (but still manageable) level. Ugh, you have to check this song out.

MAC's Soft and Gentle MSF

Monday, August 20, 2012

At Macy's in Chicago, I picked up my second MSF from MAC, Soft and Gentle! I've heard beauty gurus rave about this for quite a while now (I'm talking about you, Rachel Whitehurst) and I'm obsessed with highlighting my face so I thought why not!

I just love looking at the designs in the actual product. The color is a pink champagne, but the best way I can describe it is by saying that it is basically the exact same color and finish Urban Decay's eyeshadow in Sin. It is basically an exact dupe in MSF form instead of eyeshadow. It's crazy!

Nars Cactus Flower Cream Blush

Saturday, August 18, 2012

I went to two different Sephora's and two Nars counters until I found this little nugget of wonder. At the Nordstrom on Michigan Ave. in Chicago, I got the Nars cream blush in Cactus flower! This is my first Nars product. I mainly got it because Meghanrosette and Sarahbelle93x rave about it on Youtube all the time and I haven't been able to get my hands on it until now, probably a year later. Better than never, right?

I have always marveled at Nars's packaging from afar. The matte black is SO sleek and the rectangular shape is really nice. The mirror is reasonably sized as well so if you wanted this for on the go makeup application, it would be handy.

Benefit's Dandelion

Thursday, August 16, 2012

Recently on a trip to Ulta for a little pre-Chicago shopping (and by pre-Chicago shopping I mean I literally got home in time to pack my stuff up an hour before we left) I picked up a few things, one being this darling boxed powder.

The packaging is nice and sleek, and I love the green box. I like that the lid isn't completely detachable and has a hinge sort of opening to make access easier.

The color itself (though very hard to photograph) is a light pink with a very slight hint of mauve. There is some fine shimmer/glitter throughout but not enough to make it look like a unicorn threw up on your face.

Cute DIY Bookmarks!

Back in February, my friend made us all the cutest bookmarks for Valentine's day and ever since I thought they were the coolest thing and super easy to make!

My Favorite Magazines and Are Subscriptions Worth It?

Thursday, August 9, 2012

I am a self-proclaimed magazine hoarder. I have issues from years back and I don't want to part with them. If I see someone on the cover that I like, I'll buy it. I'm all about impulse buys and living in the moment.

In my armoire I have an entire shelf dedicated to all of my magazines organized by date (for the most part) and separated into each magazine. I have duplicates of these magazines: Teen Vogue, Seventeen, Nylon, Vogue, Elle, Marie Clare, and Glamour. I'm more into the fashion magazines and avoid gossip magazines like a plague (though I do have three issues of people---One dedicated to Selena Gomez & Demi Lovato, another to the Jonas Brothers and the last contained pictures from Kevin and Danielle's wedding).

My favorite by far is Seventeen magazine, mostly because it is geared more toward people my age. I like the helpful hints and fun articles in it---it keeps me young! My second favorite is Teen Vogue. I love the photoshoots in this magazine particularly but sometimes I feel a little sad that I can't afford most of the stuff in it. But that's the point---it's a mini Vogue! Nylon has by far my favorite photographs. They're more out there and sort of artsy with the hair and makeup, which totally reels me in. I'll usually only buy Vogue, Elle, Marie Clare, etc. when there's someone on the cover that I really, really love or when I'm itching for a new magazine to read.

Now onto the big question: Are magazine subscriptions worth it? My answer with forever be yes, but with caution.

Little Notebooks

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I love carrying around little notebooks or planners with me just incase I want to remember something. Usually I'd just write it in on my notepad on my phone put when I'm in school I can't really do that unless it's a free period of some sorts.

Instead of wasting an entire sheet of loose leaf for a single thought or one thing to remember to bring in the next day, I whip out a little notebook and call it a day.

I went to Barnes and Noble to pick up some new ones for the upcoming school year and I figured why not dedicate a whole blog to these little nugs.

Jasmine Korres Lip Butter

Monday, August 6, 2012

I've been wanting to try one of these lip butter's for the longest time but I never got out to a Sephora to pick one up. Finally, after months of pining after one of these I picked up the most neutral shade so I could wear it to work.

My Favorite Books

Sunday, August 5, 2012

I am a total book worm. I love reading and writing and everything along those lines. Fiction is lovely so long as you don't complete submerge yourself in it.

I am going to list my top five favorite books of all time. I'm sure I will dedicate a blog to those that didn't make this cut but these will always chart on my top favorites if someone asks. These are in a specific order, by the way.

  1. Looking For Alaska by John Green
    • My love for this book is eternal. I have never felt more attached to a book in my life. I've read it countless times (actually, it is countable. I've read it five times) and each and every time I find something new I love about it. My cover is tattered and folded in weird places. The pages are marked up with multiple colored highlighters and various pencil markings and notes I made. I love the format of it (before and after). I've always been shitty at describing the plot without spoilers but the way a significant event can rip some people apart is hard to read but John Green does it beautifully. You've probably seen quotes from this book on hipster tumblrs and just didn't know. If someone asks me what book to read, I will always say this one. LAF without doubt or hesitation is my favorite book of all time and that will never change.
  2. Paper Towns by John Green
    • I don't know if you can catch a pattern with this, but John Green is also my favorite author. He provides enough hilarity to keep you laughing but can instantly change it into a heart wrenching scene that brings you tears. He has this way of transitioning and balancing a variety of emotions. My primary reason for liking this book so much, other than the fact that it is another brilliantly written book by John Green, is because it has this one focus on people being mirrors and how we see ourselves in people and make them stay that way. I thought that was so disgustingly beautiful. If someone has already read LFA I recommend this or I'll just tell them to read everything by John Green and call it a day.

Benefit's Sun Beam Highlighter

Friday, August 3, 2012

On a recent trip to Sephora I picked up another one of Benefit's highlighters. I already have High-Beam so I decided to get Sun-Beam for the summer.

July Favorites!

Thursday, August 2, 2012

Here's a list of some of my favorite products of July! I cannot believe it's August already. Ugh, I can hear the school bells already.

First and foremost, Physician's formula's mineral wear powder is definitely a favorite and has been for a few months now. I have super sensitive skin prone to breakouts and this has kept my skin nice and healthy. Plus, it lasts really long and has a lot of coverage for a loose powder.

Next are Posietint and Sun Beam both from Benefit. I've been using Posietint on my lips and use Sun Beam as a regular highlighter (cheek bones, nose, forehead, etc.).

Benefit's Sugarbomb

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Today at Ulta I got this set from the Benefit counter featuring Posietint and a boxed powder in Sugarbomb.

Sugarbomb has four different colors that swirled together create a gorgeous medium pink color.

NOTD: Accent nail trend ft. Essie polishes.

The accent nail trend is my favorite way to practice my indecisiveness. I get to wear two nail polishes and not look like a total tool? I'm in. Of course, I always try to pick colors that match or if I use a glitter, I make sure it's going to coordinate.
